The association may appoint in its statutes one or delegates to the daily management that may come from the association (membres ou administrateurs) or not.

But what is important is compliance with accounting obligations of NPO (non-profit association) ASBL (Association Sans But Lucratif).

The law establishes ASBL categories will have different accounts :

  • If the association brings together two of the three following criteria :
    • 5 workers;
    • 250.000 € of revenue;
    • 1.000.000 € of balance sheet.
    The legal provisions relating to business accounts will be imposed.
    Within thirty days of approval, accounts are filed with the National Bank of Belgium (Banque nationale de Belgique).
  • If the association brings together two of the three following criteria :
    • 50 workers;
    • 6.250.000 € of revenue;
    • 3.125.000 € of balance sheet.
    The accounts will be made by one or more company auditors (réviseurs d'entreprise).
  • All other ASBL have simplified accounts.

Remember that approving the accounts is done exclusively by the "Assemblée générale".
The "Conseil d’administration" submits the annual accounts for approval to the "Assemblée générale" each year within a period fixed by law.

The annual accounts are filed each year at the Registry of the Commercial Court (greffe du tribunal de commerce) or the National Bank of Belgium (Banque nationale de Belgique) by type of ASBL.

As an administrator of a non-profit organization, it may be useful to guard against any problem related to the management of a non-profit association. To do this, there is a professional R.C. insurance and a R.C. Directors insurance.
